Evangelism refers to the presentation of the gospel to those who have not heard or who have not believed. It is an important core value for us at King of the Nations because we know it is of the utmost importance to the Lord. Jesus said that he was sent “to seek and save the lost” (Luke 19:10). And He sends us out into this world as “witnesses” of who He is (Acts 1:8), thereby making His appeal through us for man to be reconciled to God (2 Corinthians 5:20).
The Gospel is the good news of Messiah Jesus, which we are privileged to share to a dying world that has no answer for its sin and who does not know about redemption that Jesus won through His sacrifice on the cross. We seek to preach this good news through a lifestyle of evangelism – a life set apart to know, to live and to speak the truth of who God is, as He has revealed Himself in the scriptures and by His Spirit. It is the Lord who draws all men to Himself (John 12:32); we simply desire to be led by the Holy Spirit and to be used as His instruments to further the work that the Spirit of God is already doing in people’s hearts.
A lifestyle of evangelism means that we follow the example of Jesus’ life here on earth of walking in the Spirit and speaking words from heaven into the hearts of men. It also implies that -- wherever we are or whatever we do -- we should be aware of God-given opportunities, overcome fear of people, and be ready to share what the Lord may put on our hearts, give out a tract, offer to pray for someone, etc.
We also have regular church-sponsored outreach opportunities in our area, where we share the good news that we have ourselves experienced with people who often have great needs. In one such regular outreach, for example, we hand out bottles of water along with a tract to people at a local transit center, making reference to the spiritual water that Jesus speaks of in John 4. We meet people there from many nations. Most of them gladly receive the water, and many are open to engage in a discussion. Many we do not see again, but we trust the Lord that He will water the seeds sown and bring forth eternal fruit for His kingdom.
